Job Perks
In the face of all the changes I've had a work over the past few months, it's easy to lose sight of the really cool stuff that my job provides.
I hosted a band today on the live show and we got into a conversation about albums they have been listening to. The topic ended up turning towards anticipated albums, and the band mentioned 2 albums that I've already listened to. It made for a bit of an awkward moment.
Very rarely do I even look at, let alone remember, an album's release date. In radio, I tend to get albums about a week or 2 in advance of the general public. It's really fun to know that what you're listening to isn't going to reach a wide audience for a little while. This is especially fun when the album kicks serious ass!
Right now I'm completely obsessed with a new album from Abigail Washburn and the Sparrow Quartet that doesn't come out till next week. The easiest way to describe it would be as a cross between bluegrass and Chinese folk music with touches of late 20th century art music thrown in. It's probably not for everyone, but I'm completely in love!
So even if my job drives me crazy at times, at least I get to listen to awesome music before anyone else.
